Dublin 2 Chiropractic provides non-surgical spinal decompression using the Chattanooga Triton DTS system at our clinic on Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
Spinal decompression is a computer-controlled form of mechanical traction used to treat a range of spinal problems, particularly disc-related conditions, sciatica and some forms of persistent lower back pain or neck pain.
Before beginning treatment, we assess your symptoms, medical history and examination findings so that decompression can be tailored to your condition and the area of the spine being treated.
Non-surgical spinal decompression uses a computer-controlled traction system to apply a gentle, controlled stretching force to the spine. With the Triton DTS system, the amount and pattern of traction can be adjusted according to the area being treated and the individual patient.
The treatment is designed to reduce mechanical loading on the spine and affected tissues. For patients with disc-related back or neck pain, sciatica or nerve irritation, decompression can help reduce pain and improve movement and function.
The treatment settings are adjusted according to your condition, symptoms and response to care rather than using the same decompression programme for every patient.
Spinal decompression can be used to:
During treatment, you lie comfortably on the decompression table while a harness is positioned to allow controlled traction to be applied to the appropriate area of the spine.
The Triton DTS system allows us to control the amount and pattern of traction according to your treatment plan. A typical decompression session lasts approximately 20 minutes and should be comfortable.
The number and frequency of sessions varies depending on your condition, examination findings and response to treatment. Your progress is monitored throughout the programme so that the treatment can be adjusted where necessary.
We commonly consider spinal decompression for patients with persistent lower back or neck pain, sciatica, disc bulges and disc herniations, particularly where disc or nerve irritation appears to be contributing to the symptoms.
Your assessment helps us determine whether decompression is a suitable treatment option and how it should be incorporated into your treatment programme. Where relevant, we can also review existing MRI imaging or radiology reports alongside your clinical examination.
Spinal decompression is not suitable for every patient or every spinal condition, which is why we review your medical history and examine you before recommending treatment.

Spinal decompression can be used on its own or alongside chiropractic care, depending on the condition being treated.
For disc-related problems and sciatica, treatment may combine decompression with appropriate chiropractic treatment, exercise and movement advice. The combination used will depend on your symptoms, examination findings and how you respond to treatment.
If you are experiencing persistent lower back or neck pain, sciatica or a disc-related problem, we can assess your condition and determine whether spinal decompression could form part of your treatment programme.
Your first appointment includes a consultation and physical examination. If you already have an MRI or radiology report, please bring it with you or send it to the clinic before your appointment where possible.
If decompression is recommended, we will explain your treatment programme, frequency of visits and costs before beginning care. You can also view our fees online.
